Plug in. Point up. Power on.

When the power bill jumps a fair bit in a single month, the way it did for a lot of Yukoners this past spring, you start wishing you had a little more say over it. A balcony panel is a small way to get some of that say back.

It's pretty much what it sounds like. Small solar panels you plug into a regular wall outlet, like an appliance. You hang them on a balcony, a wall, or a railing, plug them in, and that's about it. Usually no electrician, no roof work, no permits. They quietly make power and send it straight into your home. Germany has more than a million of them. It's safe, it's proven, and it works everywhere it's allowed.

We already know solar works up here. Old Crow built its own solar farm and switched off the diesel for the first time in fifty years, and the Vuntut Gwitchin did that themselves. What's still missing is the easy part, a clear, legal way for a regular household to plug in a panel and shave a bit off the bill. That's the gap we're trying to close.

So we're asking the Yukon government, which says it wants to bring rates down, to make plug-in solar a simple option for households. This is one easy way to start.
